Best Time of Your Life: Finishing Last in the Philadelphia Marathon

7 hour performance

2011

In Best Time of Your Life: Finishing Last in the Philadelphia Marathon I run a marathon with the goal of finishing last. A marathon is structured to propel runners through 26.2 miles in the shortest possible time, and my last place performance both fails to succeed and succeeds to fail. Treating the race structure as a malleable material the work becomes relative, contradicting our concepts of winning and defeat.
